Art Festivals in a Networked Age
This presentation and open discussion will introduce the transmediale, festival for art and digital culture. transmediale is a Berlin-based festival and year-round project that draws out new connections between art, culture and technology.
The activities of transmediale aim at fostering a critical understanding of contemporary culture and politics as saturated by media technologies. Since the kick off as a VideoFilmFest 27 years ago transmediale constantly developed, changed and reassembled. The presentations aims to evaluate and question the format of an art festival today and raises the question how curatorial practices, forms of organization and production change in networked cultures.
Is the format of a festival designed to either vanish or become institutional? How could alternatives look like? What role has the community and the artists in such a development?
