"The Bear and the Cane" refers literally to the conflict between nature and culture. The work attempts to examine opposite approaches to life and its story follows a narrative of ups and downs. The bear, which represents a creature striving to become something better, is juxtaposed with the cane, which does not seem to share the same need. The bear is seduced by the lure of better prospects and the promise of becoming a superior being.
